Automation Revolution

About the automation revolution refers to the application of machines to tasks performed once or, increasingly, by humans, for tasks that would otherwise be impossible without their appearance, although the term mechanization is often used to refer to the simple substitution of human labor by Machines, however , automation generally means integrating a machine into a self-control system. Automation has made a huge revolution in all the fields it has introduced, so there is hardly an aspect of modern life that has not been affected by it.
When did the term automation appear?
The term automation was coined in 1946 in the automotive industry to describe the increasing use of automated devices and controls in mechanical production lines, and the etymology of the word (Automation) is associated with DS Harder, who was director of engineering at Ford Motor Company at the time.
The term is mostly used in the context of manufacturing, but has also been applied outside of manufacturing in relation to systems where there is a significant substitution of mechanical, electrical, or computerized work for human effort and intelligence.
In general, automation can Automation Revolution be defined as a technology related to the implementation of a process through programmed commands with automatic feedback control, to ensure the correct implementation of instructions, and the resulting system can operate without human intervention. The development of this technology is increasingly dependent on the use of computer equipment and computer-related technology. As such, automated systems are becoming increasingly complex, but these sophisticated systems represent high levels of capacity and performance that in many ways surpass human capabilities to perform the same activities.
In the recent period automation technology has matured to the point where a number of other technologies have developed. Robotics is one of the most important of these technologies, and is a special branch of automation in which automated machines have anthropomorphic or human characteristics and features. The most common human feature of modern industrial robots is their robotic arm. Where the Automation Revolution robotic arm can be programmed to move through a series of movements to perform the required tasks, such as loading and unloading production machine parts, or making a series of welding points on car body metal parts during the assembly process. , so it is usually used to replace human labor in factory operations.
Automation is growing
Automation technology has evolved from the related field of mechanization, which began in the Industrial Revolution, and the term mechanization refers to the substitution of human (or animal) energy for other forms of mechanical energy, since the driving force behind mechanization is human inclination. to design mechanical tools and devices to facilitate livelihoods. And industrial business, and below we highlight some of the important historical developments in the field of mechanization and automation, which led to the emergence of modern automated systems.
Stone tools represent the first Automation Revolution attempt by prehistoric primitive man to direct his physical powers under the control of his human intelligence. Undoubtedly, thousands of years of human experience and effort were sufficient to develop simple mechanical devices and machines such as wheels, levers, and pulleys, through which human muscular strength could be amplified.
The next extension of this simple machine was the development of power-operated machines that did not require power to operate. Examples include wheeled engines, windmills, and simple steam-powered devices. More than two thousand years ago, the Chinese developed the trekking hammer that worked with a waterwheel and water, while the Greeks experimented with the Early simple reaction steam engine, and in Europe in 1335 mechanical watches were invented which represented a rather complex group, with had a power source (weight) and during the Middle Ages in Europe and the Middle East windmills were Automation Revolution developed which were powered by a new mechanism that guided sails automatically.
Automation in the era of the Industrial Revolution
The steam engine represented a major advance in engine development and witnessed the start of the Industrial Revolution. Since the introduction of the “Watt” steam engine over the last two centuries, engines and powered machines have been designed, which obtain their energy from steam, electrical, chemical, mechanical and nuclear sources.
With each new development in the history of the powered engine, it also brought with it an increasing need for control devices to harness the power of the device.
