The present practice in Bangladesh for construction Bearing Methods of crossbars is placing the girder directly on the bearing pad and joining the conterminous two spans in sundeck arbor position by espousing expansion joints, as the islands are presently designed as simply– supported ray ground. The main disadvantage of this type of islands is that, Bearing Methods the seismic resistance is weak, and under the external force beyond the design range, the islands are more likely to fall in peril because of failure in crossbars. Also they’ve expansion joints for each span, which affects the comfort of driving and the overall integrity of the ground sundeck is poor( 1). thus, design and construction of the islands have been revised to establish durability between crossbars of two conterminous spans and transfigure the ground as simply supported nonstop ray ground( 2). Temporary bearing( sandbox) system is proposed in this paper to break the system metamorphosis Bearing Methods of nonstop ray islands. Design of the temporary bearing is veritably simple and can be manufactured at point. This system has been proved in construction of Arial Kha Bridge and can be applied for other analogous islands in Bangladesh.
Construction of nonstop girder ground is done by launching the crossbars as simply supported span and the crossbars of two conterminous spans Bearing Methods are made nonstop by casting the girder end common section on pier top. To cast the end joint at point, the crossbars of conterminous two spans need to be placed at their asked position against the endless bearing pad with the help of temporary support. After gaining the target strength at the “ Cast– in- situ ” girder common section, and after completion of stressing and grouting for negative moment tendons, temporary bearing is released and the girder is placed on the endless bearing pad( 3). The performance of temporary comportments in this system is pivotal. Temporary comportments must have sufficient strength, Bearing Methods severity, stability and ease of disassembly. When the temporary bearing is removed, the ray body can be slightly and stably placed on the fixed bearing pad. Using this system, construction of the ground is veritably smooth and speedy compared to the present practice which has been proved in construction of Arial Kha Bridge.
